Join Michele Serros’ Grito de Independencía (the cry of independence): Hasta la Bye Bye Cancer! Adenoid cystic carci- what? Yes, adenoid cystic carcinoma can be a bit tricky on the tongue, even for 48-year-old author Michele Serros who was diagnosed with this rare form of cancer in April of 2013. Since receiving the traumatic news during the second year of marriage to her husband, Antonio, Michele has utilized all resources to fight and win her battle: chemotherapy, radiation, weekly acupuncture, healing practices of curanderismo, as well as following the strict regimen of the Gerson Therapy Diet. However, even with such dedication to overcome her terminal illness, the cancer advanced to Stage 4 and metastasized to her bones, liver and lymph nodes, also paralyzing her left vocal cord - greatly restricting her work as a commentator for Public Radio and as a motivational speaker for high schools, universities, and correctional facilities across the country. Here is her “Coming out with Cancer” story published last month for the Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michele-serros/an-unexpected-heirloom_b_5619631.html Michele’s husband is her primary caregiver and the sole source of income for both of them. Even with a maxed-out savings and high health insurance co-pays, she remains optimistic. We are asking for your generosity as GiveForward donors to assist with costs that are not covered by health insurance: alternative cancer care and medicinal therapies, psychological counseling, transportation (she is currently unable to drive), voice coaching, and medical care outside the United States where facilities and teams are more advanced and familiar with treatment for adenoid cystic carcinoma. Thank you for your thoughtful consideration. Every bit helps!
Michele Serros is a wonderful Chicana artist in need of financial assistance for medical expenses.
